West Bengal is a State located in the East of India. The bustling city of Kolkata is the State capital. The diverse geographical terrain of West Bengal makes it an exciting tourist destination. It is the eastern bottleneck of India and stretches from the Himalayas in the North to Bay of Bengal in the South.West Bengal tourism attracts many people from all over India and abroad. The diverse flora and fauns, the beautiful scenic beaches and serene hill stations attract a number of tourists every year. Tourists can also enjoy museums and monuments that represent West Bengal’s rich history and culture, especially of the colonial times. West Bengal tourism industry is in its nascent stages but due to increase in tourists the Government is developing the West Bengal tourism industry.

The State capital Kolkata is well loved by tourists as it offers a lot. The city is reminiscent of the colonial era and its parks, museums, buildings and monuments pay homage to that beautiful and charming era. The Victoria Memorial is a must visit.

Darjeeling is a hill station in the Himalayas and attracts a large number of tourists. It is famous for its beautiful hills covered in acres and acres of tea plantations. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Darjeeling is great for treks and camping. The hill town is beautiful and a train ride along the beautiful hills is mesmerizing. The famed Darjeeling train is one of the few steam engine trains that still run. The neighboring town of Kalingpong is also a popular destination for trek and hill station lovers.
Darjeeling is also a part of the Eastern Himalayan zoo-geographic zone. The plants around Darjeeling comprise of sal, oak, semi-evergreen and alpine forests and also a number of orchards. Darjeeling is also famed for its many and rare variety of orchids. The Lloyd's Botanical Garden preserves common and rare species of plants, while the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park specializes in conserving and breeding endangered Himalayan species. The fauna in Darjeeling includes several species of ducks, teals, plovers and gulls that pass Darjeeling while migrating to and from Tibet, mammals found in the region include civets, mongooses and badgers.


Tourists can also visit the nearby Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, which consists of semi-evergreen and sal forests. Animals found here include the one horned rhinoceros among other rare animals.Durgapur is a very well planned and popular city of West Bengal. The Damodar River passes through the city and adds to the city’s scenic beauty. Places of interest in Durgapur include the Durgapur barrage, Kumarmangalam Park and many gardens and parks.
The Durgapur Barrage is across the Damodar River and offers tourists with a picturesque view of the beautiful landscape of the city. The Kumarmangalam Park with the artificial lakes and the small hills is very popular with tourists in the city.

The beautiful city of Siliguri is a perfect balance of industry and nature. Its natural beauty attracts a number of tourists. Tourists come to enjoy the picturesque and scenic beauty of the city. They also get a chance to enjoy some very good shopping, especially in Hong Kong market where foreign goods are sold at reasonable prices.

West Bengal is very well connected by roads, air and rails and boasts of a number of luxury and budget accommodations.
